DID YOU KNOW? The Kentucky Women’s Book Festival began in 2006 as the dream of Louisville playwright and historian Carridder “Rita” Jones, who was inspired by a similar festival in Charlottesville, Virginia. The first KWBF took place in September 2006 at Spalding University. The 10th Annual KWBF is Saturday, March 5, from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Ekstrom Library.

Campus-Submitted Announcements
1.) Cardinal Shuttle stop at Floyd Street garage closed
March 1-June 1.
Due to street construction on Belknap Campus beginning March 1, the Cardinal Shuttle stop at the Floyd Street garage will be closed from Tuesday, March 1 to Wednesday, June 1. During that time, students should use the shuttle stop located at the Thrust Theatre building. These temporary changes are part of the Streetscape Project that started last year.

The Office of the EVPRI is accepting applications for the Internal Grants Program. The Internal Grants Program (Research I, Research II and URG) aims to assist faculty in new highly productive research projects. All grant categories are open to full-time faculty.

7.) Self-defense program for women available
March 15, 5 to 8 p.m., SAC (east) Aerobics Studio
Free
Space is still available for the Rape Aggression Defense (R.A.D.) Systems instruction. This is a self-defense program designed and created specifically for women. It consists of easy to learn, effectively proven physical defense techniques, which are taught by certified instructors during the hands-on 9-hour program. Classes are open to faculty, staff and students. The class will meet on three consecutive days with each session lasting 3 hours.

9.) What Jane Saw: The Shakespeare Gallery of 1796 reconstructed

Professor Janine Barchas, University of Texas at Austin, has reconstructed the Shakespeare Gallery that Jane Austen visited in London in 1796. Burchas’s most recent book is Matters of Fact in Jane Austen: History, Location, and Celebrity, Burchas has also launched the website What Jane Saw.

Anita Jung teaches printmaking. She is an artist whose work is grounded in traditions of the readymade, appropriation and art as an everyday occurrence.
