    Belknap Construction

    1.) One-way traffic on Warnock continues this week

    Traffic will continue to be one way on Warnock Avenue, westbound from Arthur to Floyd, the week of June 29. Drivers should continue to expect delays as construction continues in the area. Check here for an update on construction on the east side of campus.

    2.) UofL Today publishing schedule for holiday week

    UoL Today will not be published on Friday, July 3. Announcements for the Monday, July 6 edition of UofL Today must be submitted by noon on Thursday, July 2.

    3.) Retirement planning workshop to be held

    Register now to attend a two-hour retirement workshop sponsored by the School of Accountancy and presented by faculty member and certified financial planner Sheila Johnston, CPA. Topics include discussion of UofL options, amounts needed for retirement, basic retirement issues and much more.

    4.) Webinar tells what NIH reviewers want to see in an effective data management plan

    How to Write an Effective Data Management Plan: What NIH Reviewers Want to See: During this insightful webinar, you will learn what counts as data and understand the agencies’ expectations and requirements for the data management plan. Your expert presenter will cover how to think about managing your data before you begin your proposed research to insure usability, long-run preservation and access. You will get the guidelines on funding the plan and examine model data management plans and processes to create them. This is a requirement for a competitive proposal.

    5.) Green Tip: Travel smart by flying less

    Summer travel season is here, but there are ways to get there without destroying our planet. Flying causes five to 10 times more pollution per passenger mile than ground-based options. It accounts for 8 percent of UofL’s total carbon footprint. Consider greener, less sardine-like options: video- or teleconference; carpool; take the train or bus (Megabus, Miller and Greyhound all serve Louisville). If you must fly, offset your emissions by investing in local forests through the Appalachian Carbon Partnership.

    As our population ages, the incidence of chronic diseases increases, as does the incidence of dementia. Dr. Rangaraj Gopalraj and Sharon Mattingly, UofL Geriatrics, and Betty Shiels, Kent School, will explore these issues, providing insights for care planning, decision-making, and the involvement of the person and caregiver in this process.
