    Did You Know?

    UofL Professor Mary Carothers’ sculpture, “Beneath the Surface,” was one of 38 public arts projects honored last week by Americans for the Arts. The organization recognized projects created in 2015 through the Public Art Network Year in Review program. “Beneath the Surface” was created for Louisville’s riverfront as part of an inaugural project from Louisville’s Commission on Public Art.

    1.) Summer parking on Belknap Campus update

    Beginning July 1 blue and green permit holders may park in orange permit spaces in the Floyd Street Garage until 8/12/16. Parking in orange permit spaces at Miller Hall without an orange permit will be restricted.

    2.) Faculty Senate to hold special meeting

    June 29, 3-5 p.m., Cochran Auditorium, Strickler Hall, Room 102

    The Faculty Senate will hold a special meeting on Wednesday, June 29, 2016 at 3 p.m. in Cochran Auditorium (Room 102) in Strickler Hall. All faculty are welcome to attend.

     

    3.) Fiscal Year End Gifts due

    Please be sure to deliver any year-end gifts that you may receive to the Advancement Services office in Cardinal Station as soon as possible. Our donors are recognized for their giving amounts based on the fiscal year. We want to ensure that all donors are recognized appropriately.

    4.) College of Education students in Amsterdam

    Students and faculty from the College of Education will travel to Amsterdam to volunteer at the European Athletic Championships Amsterdam 2016. The group, made out of 23 students, are all undergraduate and graduate students in Exercise Science and Sport Administration in the department of Health and Sport Sciences. They are led by four faculty members and one staff. The group will be departing Louisville June 29. Read their remarks online.

    5.) Webinar: ‘Research Misconduct: What’s in a Name?’

    June 29, 2-3 p.m.; Free

    This webinar will help you: Assess your current institutional definition in view of the historic US definition of research misconduct; Understand what the advantages and disadvantages of aligning with the Federal definition for research misconduct are; Compare and contrast different federal agency interpretations and enforcement of their definitions of misconduct; and Understand the implications of other countries’ definition of research misconduct.

    Join UofL Professional Development and Instructor Rebecca Crump for a three-day intensive workshop that will help you develop the skills you need to create competitive grant applications, identify and build relationships with potential funders, and follow-through after your grant is funded. The workshop takes place from July 27 to July 29 on Shelby Campus.

    8.) Green Tip: Summer Garden Workday Series starts today

    June 29, 11 a.m. to noon, Garden Commons, Cultural Center, Belknap Campus; Free

    Did you know that UofL has on-campus organic gardens where you can experience the thrill of turning tiny seeds into an abundance of fresh, free, hyper-local food? Staff and students are always welcome to get involved and faculty can use the gardens as teaching tool or research space for sustainability topics. A summer series of workshops and group workdays will begin today and every other Wednesday from 11 a.m. to noon at the Garden Commons (Cultural Center): June 29, July 13, July 27, Aug. 10. Fresh greens and beans available.
