    On July 1, the University of Louisville is joining the Atlantic Coast Conference! Between now and then, UofL Today is bringing you a few tidbits every day about the 14 other ACC schools. Later, we will use this spot for daily morsels of information about UofL.

     

    Did you know … Virginia Tech is one of three public universities in the United States with both an active Corps of Cadets and a “civilian” lifestyle on campus (the others are Texas A&M and North Georgia College and State University). The school has 31,000 students, and the main campus is located in Blacksburg. Check out more here.

    1.) Pioneer collector Draper focus of Filson talk

    June 27, noon to 1 p.m., Filson Historical Society, 1310 S. Third St.

    Free, but reservations are requested

    Lyman Draper made collecting trips throughout Kentucky and other states to chronicle and document the lives of the earliest pioneers. Jim Holmberg of the Filson staff will describe how Draper was both praised and vilified for his collecting activities. The Filson is part of UofL’s Center for Arts and Culture Partnerships.

    2.) Digital Media Academy students to showcase work

    June 27, 1 to 2 p.m., Ekstrom Library, Chao Auditorium

    Free, public

    Please join us for a showcase of digital media projects created by Louisville middle school students who have spent the last two weeks “Designing Their Futures” through image manipulation and video editing. We will highlight their collaborative video projects, their individual image and video creations, and our camp reflections, stories and outtakes about our experiences working together with digital media. Sponsored by the English Department and Liberal Studies.

    4.) Faculty/Staff Discount: 2014 UofL Soccer Season Tickets at Lynn Stadium

    $45 General Admission, $60 Preferred ($75 per account donation) and $95 Premium ($100 per account donation)

    2014 UofL Soccer Season Ticket packages will include all 21 men’s and women’s regular season home matches. Lynn Stadium will officially open on Friday, August 29 and feature a doubleheader with our women’s team hosting Ole Miss at 6pm and our men’s team hosting Maryland at 8:30pm.

    5.) Retirement workshop will help with basic planning

    Register now to attend a two-hour retirement workshop sponsored by the School of Accountancy and presented by faculty member and Certified Financial Planner, Sheila Johnston. Topics include discussion of U of L options, amounts needed for retirement, basic retirement issues, and much more.
