    On July 1, the University of Louisville is joining the Atlantic Coast Conference! Between now and then, UofL Today is bringing you a few tidbits every day about the 14 other ACC schools. Later, we will use this spot for daily morsels of information about UofL.

    1.) Tickets added for ACC Kick-Off Event for faculty and staff

    July 1, 11:30 a.m., Brown & Williamson Club

    Free, RSVP required

    Tickets have been added for the July 1 event to mark UofL officially joining the Atlantic Coast Conference. The free lunchtime program is specifically for faculty and staff to commemorate this exciting, historic event. Limited seating is available, RSVP is required.

    2.) IT warns against new phishing scam

    Information Technology has received reports regarding a new phishing scam sent by email to university account holders. If you have received a notice with the subject “Service Violation – Urgent Action Required” please delete it immediately. This email is not legitimate and could put your log-in credentials at risk. If you are ever in doubt about the authenticity of an email message please contact the HelpDesk or your Tier I for validation.

    3.) Reminder: Outlook rule may help minimize junk mail

    Microsoft reports that 97 percent of all email is unsolicited. Microsoft Exchange Online Protection minimizes the amount of spam and malware that is received at UofL. IT suggests using the rules feature in the Outlook client to further reduce the amount of unsolicited email from your inbox. When using this rule you need to monitor your Junk Email for legitimate emails.

    4.) Child Sexual Abuse Prevention training sessions offered

    Free for faculty, staff and volunteers; list of dates and sites below; registration limited to 25

    The Office of the Senior VP for Business Affairs and the Office of the Provost are offering training on Child Sexual Abuse Prevention at no charge to participants.  The sessions are geared for faculty, staff and volunteers who work directly with minors at UofL programs. 

    Dates, times and locations are:

    ·        June 20, 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., HSC KWing 2036

    ·        June 24, 2:30 to 4:30 p.m., HR Training Room 103

    ·        July 14, 2:30 to 4:30 p.m., HR Training Room 103

    5.) A history of Appalachian slaves and slaveholders

    June 20, noon to 1 p.m., Filson Historical Society, 1310 S. Third St.

    Free for students, faculty and staff with UofL ID

    Laura Cordle of the Filson Historical Society staff will speak about slavery and slave societies in Appalachian Tazewell County, Virginia, and the complicated history a study of Tazewell County reveals. The Filson Historical Society is a member of the Center for Arts and Culture Partnerships.

    6.) Want a 3D view of the inside of the eye?

    June 19, 7:30 to 8:30 a.m., Kentucky Lions Eye Center, 301 E. Muhammad Ali Blvd., basement conference room

    Students, faculty and staff are invited to the next meeting of the River City Retina Club (RC2), where Dr. Shlomit Schaal of UofL Physicians–Eye Specialists will show spectacular stereoscopic 3D videos of retinal surgery. UofL Physicians is among the first in the world to use stereoscopic 3D recording for eye surgery. Using 3D glasses, spectators will get a unique view inside the eye.

    Additional Information: RSVP by sending an e-mail to Erin Moody to ensure enough pairs of 3D glasses will be available. A sign-in sheet will be available for CME credit. 

     

    7.) Faculty/Staff Discount: 2014 UofL Soccer Season Tickets at Lynn Stadium

    $45 General Admission, $60 Preferred ($75 per account donation) and $95 Premium ($100 per account donation)

    2014 UofL Soccer Season Ticket packages will include all 21 men’s and women’s regular season home matches. Lynn Stadium will officially open on August 29 and feature a doubleheader with our women’s team hosting Ole Miss at 6 p.m. and our men’s team hosting Maryland at 8:30 p.m.
