    1.) Reminder: 2015-16 Paul Weber Award information sessions scheduled

    June 19, 11 a.m. to noon; July 1, 10 to 11 a.m.; Delphi Lab (Ekstrom Library)

    Register to attend an informal information session to learn more about the application process and submission timeline for the 2015-2016 Paul Weber Award for Department Excellence in Teaching. The award seeks to foster and sustain a university-wide culture of teaching excellence by recognizing departments that demonstrate best practices in teaching and learning. Stage One applications are due August 14.

    2.) Fire up your core muscles with Ab Lab

    Tuesdays and Thursdays noon to 12:15 p.m., Get Healthy Now Wellness Center at Humana Gym

    Free for employees, retirees and their spouses/QAs

    Summertime has arrived and it’s time to get those abs tight, toned up and stronger with Ab Lab. It’s the total core workout. In this class, you will focus on basic abdominal work and lower back exercises. Equipment options that may be used include: the bosu balance trainer, stability balls and weights. This class will help develop a toned physique and improve total body strength, while developing your core muscles.

    3.) Network outages possible during PM on Friday

    Due to residence hall construction on 4th Street, IT is transitioning to new fiber optic cable. The network will be subject to intermittent outages during the normal PM period on Friday, June 19. Buildings affected include: Louisville Hall, University Tower, Playhouse, Community Park, Billy Minardi, Kurz, Bettie Johnson, UPDC, USI and University Audit. Services to Internet2 and KyRON may also be affected.

    4.) Bob Cochran retirement Open House is today

    June 17, 3 to 5 p.m., Red Barn

    Please join us for an open house today at the Red Barn for Bob Cochran, director of payroll. Bob is retiring June 30 after 42 years of service to the university. Please stop by to thank Bob for all that he has done and to wish him well with this new chapter of his life.

     

    5.) Homecoming event form now available

    Homecoming is coming! This year’s parade is set for Oct. 23 at 6 p.m. and the Homecoming game is Oct. 24 when UofL plays Boston College (time TBA). To submit your event to be included in all official alumni promotions, submit a parade entry form, or view the most up-to-date Homecoming information, visit: www.UofLalumni.org/homecoming15 The event request form deadline is July 24.

    7.) Green Tip: Local eating is in season!

    Eating local is one of the best ways to rein in your environmental impact, strengthen our regional economy and improve your health. UofL can help you get started today! Join us for group workdays/harvests at the Garden Commons today (raspberries!) and every other Wednesday noon to 2 p.m. at the Cultural Center. On Thursdays, load up on local fare at UofL’s farmers markets: 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at HSC’s Gray St. or 3:30 to 6 p.m. at Belknap (3rd and Brandeis). Eat at the peak of freshness and taste the difference!
