    ·       PHOTOS: More than 250 high school educators participated in the AP Summer Institute fifth year celebration held on Belknap campus during the weeks of June 15-19 and July 20-24. View photos here.

    ·       PHOTOS: Members of the Class of 2019 officially entered the UofL School of Medicine at the White Coat Ceremony on Sunday, July 26. Faculty and medical community members welcomed 154 first-year medical students by presenting them with white coats. The students then recited the Declaration of Geneva, promising to serve humanity and honor the traditions of the medical profession. View photos here.

    Farmers Markets

    1.) Gray Street: Peaches, peach lemonade and blackberries

    Thursdays through Oct. 29, rain or shine, 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., 400 block of East Gray Street

    Some items available today will include: Peaches, corn, frozen blueberries, blackberries, okra, potatoes, yellow squash, zucchini, sweet peppers, heirloom tomatoes, beets, cabbage, onions, bitter melon, eggplant, water spinach, green beans, cucumbers, stuffed pancakes, rice vegetable rolls, sunflowers, zinnias, maple syrup, peach jam, granola, cookies, blueberry lemon bread. Lunch trucks: V-Grits (southern-style vegan cuisine) and Sweet ‘N’ Savory (crepes, smoothies, gelato, frozen coffee). Also homemade soaps, scrubs, lotions, lip balms and laundry butters from Summer Shade Soap Co.

    Thursdays through Oct. 15, rain or shine, 3:30 to 6 p.m., 3rd and Brandeis next to the Ville Grill.

    Some items available today will include: Peaches, frozen blueberries, purple hull peas, baby carrots, tomatoes, kale, collards, Swiss chard, green beans, yellow squash, zucchini, cabbage, beets, green onions, local honey, eggs, chicken, a variety of homemade breads, cinnamon rolls, cookies, kettle corn, iced tea and lemon shake-ups. Also wood products made from reclaimed wood, garden accessories. Entertainment by singer Garrett Schlaegel.

    3.) Fifth annual HSC Ice Cream Social is today

    July 30, 2 to 4 p.m., HSC Plaza

    With temperatures in the 80s forecast, today will be a perfect day for refreshing  Comfy Cow ice cream on the plaza.

    4.) Call for applications: 2015-2016 Seminar on Teaching for New Faculty

    Sponsored by the Office of the Provost and the Delphi Center for Teaching and Learning, this year-long cohort program is designed to jump-start new faculty members’ teaching careers by providing a rich foundation of research-based principles about how learning works. A cohort of 8-12 junior faculty members will meet six times during the academic year to explore and apply the findings of learning theory to their teaching at UofL. Application deadline is August 14.

    Free for UofL employees, retirees and their spouses/QAs

    Take 20 and get those abs tight, toned up and stronger with Get Healthy Now’s Ab Lab. It’s the total core workout in only 15 minutes! Join in and feel great doing abdominal work and lower back exercises with our certified health fitness specialist. This session will help you develop a toned physique and improve total body strength.     6.) Bias Incident Response Team available

    While valuing freedom of thought and expression, and multiple points of view, we recognize that some members of our campus community are affected by instances of bias and hate and need assistance. The Bias Incident Response Team (BIRT) is a group of faculty and staff who are committed to creating a proactive response.

    7.) Cards All In Ambassadors needed

    Would you like to join the Cards All In team? We need volunteers for the 2015-16 campaign! Representatives are needed from all departments across campus to serve as ambassadors. Ambassadors serve for one year terms and act as the giving liaison to their departments. All volunteers will be invited to attend a training at the University Club on Wednesday, August 12.

    8.) Research!Louisville 2015 Call for Abstracts

    October 27-30 Kosair Charities Clinical and Translational Research Building, Health Sciences Center Faculty, post-docs, research associates, residents, clinical fellows, research staff, PharmDs, graduate and professional students are invited to submit an abstract on their life science research for a poster presentation at Research!Louisville.     10.) HSC presentation to be given by Dr. Gerard Rabalais

    Aug. 19, noon to 1 p.m., (lunch will be available at 11:30 a.m.), School of Medicine, B Instructional Building, Room 215

    Join Dr. Gerard Rabalais and your HSC faculty colleagues for this one-hour lunch presentation as we envision the future of health science education at UofL. Dr. Rabalais will discuss his six-month sabbatical journey to visit eight medical schools thought to be at the forefront of innovation in medical school teaching. Lunch will be available at 11:30 a.m.

    11.) Pediatrics

    July 31, 8 a.m., Norton Hospital, 2nd Floor Auditorium

    This Friday, please join us for a pediatric grand rounds featuring Suzanne Kingery, MD. Kingery is assistant professor of pediatrics in the division of pediatric endocrinology and diabetes at the University of Louisville. She will be presenting “Gender Nonconforming Youth.” After the presentation, attendees should be able to understand the difference between sex and gender and explore gender development and gender dysphoria.
