    Dr. John Gibson, associate professor of philosophy, has been named director of the new Commonwealth Center for Humanities and Society.     1.) Save the date: Belknap Ice Cream Social

    August 15, 2-4 p.m., Grawemeyer courtyard

    The annual Belknap Campus Ice Cream Social will be held August 15, from 2 to 4 p.m., on the courtyard of Grawemeyer Hall. It will feature Comfy Cow ice cream.

    2.) Free Summer Bash event to be held at ShelbyHurst Thursday

    July 28, 4-8 p.m., ShelbyHurst Campus; Free

    The inaugural ShelbyHurst Summer Bash will feature food vendors, kids activities, music, giveaways and more. Purchase food from Mark’s Feed Store, Kentucky Taco Company, Booty’s Food Truck and Steel City Pops. Beer and wine will also be available for purchase from Masterson’s Catering. Activities include free henna tattoos, inflatables (for kids and adults!), and cornhole. Admission is free and the event is open to the community.

    3.) Last chance to register for UofL Professional Development’s Fall 2016 Project Management Certificate program

    Classes begin Aug. 11

    This two-seminar program is based on the processes and knowledge areas in the Project Management Institute’s “A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge.” A limited number of spaces in the first and second seminar are available at a 25-percent discount for UofL employees.

    4.) Fostering Research Collaboration: A SOM Women Faculty Networking Breakfast

    August 9, 7-8:30 a.m., Abell Administration Center, Room 110; Free

    UofL School of Medicine women faculty interested in doing or already doing research will have an opportunity to meet other UofL School of Medicine women faculty researchers and find potential collaborators, discuss barriers to building a research program, and to explore ways to support each other as researchers. The free breakfast is for registrants/SOM women faculty only and is sponsored by LWIMS.
