Admission free for UofL students for Thursday’s Women’s Basketball game

Thursday, 7 p.m., KFC Yum! Center

No. 2 Notre Dame visits No. 3 UofL Women’s Basketball Thursday at the KFC Yum! Center. UofL is currently 18-0, which is the best start in program history. Admission is free for students with a valid UofL student ID. A UofL student ticket raffle will be held during the game for tickets to Taylor Swift’s Reputation Stadium Tour. The game will also recognize raiseRED student night. 

University Writing Center open

The Writing Center serves all UofL faculty, staff, and students. Our individual consultations provide feedback on any type of writing at any point in the writing process. Invite us to your classes or meetings for a brief introduction to our services or customized workshop. Memorial Service for Darla Frazier

Do customers need your innovation? Let the UofL-NSF I-Corps Site program help with the discovery and commercialization of STEM innovations. Inventors and researchers partner with entrepreneurial mentors to develop a strategy to get innovative products to market. Awards are up to $2,500 per team. UofL MLK Week events kick off Jan. 15

UofL MLK Week is an annual week-long series of events that honor the life and legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and educate the UofL campus and community on the importance of actualizing Dr. King’s ideals of social justice, non-violence, education, and service. Call for abstracts for graduate student research conference

Graduate students are invited to present their research at the Graduate Student Regional Research Conference at the University of Louisville, March 2-3, 2018. Abstract submissions are now open for students who wish to present an oral talk, poster presentation, or compete in the 3-minute thesis competition. Volunteers sought to help restore tree canopy in Old Louisville

New date: Jan. 20 (moved due to weather), 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., gather at Gather at 6th Street & Oak Street
Our Old Louisville neighbors request help from UofL students, faculty and staff at tree plantings January through April. The O.L. Neighborhood Council invites you to five separate volunteer days to plant 139 shady street trees. The first opportunity is Jan. 20 starting at 6th and Oak to plant 18 trees along 6th Street and 4 trees on Garvin Place. If rain, snow, or ground conditions prevent planting, we will reschedule the following week. Tools and gloves provided along with coffee, hot chocolate, breakfast and lunch.

Rather than offer what is typically presented (little more than how to fill out forms and conform to instructions) this proposal-writing seminar emphasizes idea development, how to write for reviewers and tips and strategies: Grantsmanship. UofL Kentucky Author Forum presents David Frum, author of ‘Trumpocracy: The Corruption of the American Republic’

Ticket price includes a 5 p.m. Brown-Forman wine and cheese, with Carmichael’s book sale in the lobby of The Kentucky Center; 6 p.m. interview; and 7 p.m. Q&A with audience. David Frum is senior editor at The Atlantic and the author of nine books. In 2001-2002, he served as speechwriter and special assistant to President George W. Bush. Trumpocracy, which will be published in January, builds on Frum’s March 2017 “How to Build an Autocracy” column in The Atlantic, explaining how Donald Trump has undermined America’s most important institutions, and how his actions will reverberate in America’s future.
