    UofL is taking part in a Simmons College of Kentucky fund raiser, Education is King, that will include an address by Provost Shirley Willihnganz and School of Music performances.

    Louisville City FC is touring colleges in Kentucky and Southern Indiana to meet students and help promote a College Supporters Group. Stop by and meet the team!

     

    3.) Family and Friends Campus Visit Program reminder

    Feb. 5, 10:15 a.m. to 12:45 p.m., Student Activities Center

    The Family & Friends Campus Visit is just two weeks away! Be sure to register your student for this special visit reserved just for you. Executive Director of Admissions Jenny Sawyer will host a 45-minute information session. Following the session will be a 90-minute student-guided walking tour of Belknap Campus.

    5.) Run the KDF Mini/Marathon and help cure cancer

    The James Graham Brown Cancer Center has been chosen as an official charity of choice for the Kentucky Derby Festival’s Mini/Marathon on April 25. Please visit the KDF website to register to run and then choose the cancer center as your charity of choice. Not a runner? No problem! Click here to donate or sponsor a runner.

    6.) Medicine: Dr. Sri Prakash Mokshagundam

    Jan. 22, 8 a.m., Ambulatory Care Building auditorium

    Medicine Grand Rounds features Sri Prakash L. Mokshagundam, associate professor of medicine and chief of endocrinology at the Louisville VAMC. Dr. Mokshagundam will present Prediabetes: Consequences, Controversies, and Challenges focusing on discussing the diagnosis, clinical implications and approaches to management of prediabetes, controversies in diagnosis and treatment, and barriers to effective management of prediabetes at individual and community levels.

    The Division of Cardiovascular Medicine presents Allen Cheng, MD, surgical director of heart transplantation; assistant professor, department of cardiovascular thoracic surgery; cardiovascular surgeon, Jewish Hospital and UofL. Dr. Cheng will present Minimally Invasive Cardiac Valve Surgery, focusing on the benefit and indication of minimally invasive cardiac valve surgery.

    Jan. 22, 8 to 9 a.m., School of Nursing, Room 4003, K-wing

    Dr. Joseph C. Maroon, Heindl Scholar in Neuroscience and clinical professor of neurological surgery, University of Pittsburgh; director, tri-state neurosurgical associates; team neurosurgeon, Pittsburgh Steelers, will present The Evolution of Concussion Management in the NFL. This is a free CME. MDs and DOs will receive 1 CME credit and nurses will receive 1.2 CEU credit.
