1.) NASA official to speak at Speed School’s E-Expo

With our theme “SPEEDing to the Next Frontier,” E-EXPO welcomes our keynote speaker from the NASA Alternative Fuel Vehicle Program, Jennifer Layton. Layton’s address will take place at 1 p.m. in the Ernst Hall auditorium. In addition to the keynote, visitors of all ages will be able to tour numerous open engineering laboratories and research centers as well as participate in many hands on activities and competitions sponsored by our engineering student societies throughout the day.

3.) Community Engagement taking entries for 2014 summer youth opportunities website
As a courtesy to the university and community, the Office of Community Engagement once again will showcase on its website summer youth opportunities provided by or in conjunction with UofL. If your unit/department offers a summer enrichment program that is open to the general public and would like to be included in this listing please fill out the Summer Youth Opportunities form no later than March 30. Postings will be made available by mid-April.
4.) Surplus Warehouse closing to prepare for auction
Feb. 27, 1901 S. Floyd St., Belknap Campus
The Surplus Warehouse, located at 1901 S. Floyd St. on Belknap Campus, will be open for viewing and reserving surplus items for department use Wednesday, Feb. 26, 8 a.m. – noon and 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. The Surplus Warehouse will then close Thursday, Feb. 27, to prepare for the next auction to be held Saturday, March 15. We request that all items reserved by departments be removed as soon as possible.

5.) Anthropology major Sara Deurell publishes novel
Anthropology undergraduate Sara Deurell has just published a novel titled The Life and Death (but mostly the death) of Erica Flynn. Deurell published the novel under the nom de plume of Sara Marian. The novel is now available on Amazon in paperback and Kindle versions.

Gottschalk Lecture will feature a panel discussion between three distinguished historians, including Samar Habib, University of London; Joseph Massad, Columbia University; and Everett Rowson, New York University. Join us for a frank and provocative conversation about the history of same-sex love and relationships in the Middle East and its significance for politics and social attitudes in the region today. On Monday, March 3, Matthew Jarrett, PhD, from University of Alabama will present a talk titled “ADHD and Comorbid Anxiety: From Basic to Applied Research” from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. in room 139, Shumaker Research Building. Jarrett received his doctorate at Virginia Polytechnic University. His research and clinical interests are in the field of developmental psychopathology, particularly in the areas of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and anxiety disorders.
