    At the Miss University of Louisville pageant Saturday, political science/economics double major Anna Pepper was named Miss University of Louisville and political science major Kyle Hornback won Miss Cardinal Country. There were 14 contestants overall competing for thousands of dollars in scholarship money. See more photos here.

    Nominations for the 2015 Trustees Award are now being accepted from the University community until March 20, 2015.     2.) Participate in trivia night fundraiser to benefit Camp Quality Kentuckiana

    Feb. 25, 6 to 8 p.m., Student Activities Center, Multipurpose Room

    $5 students; $10 for everyone else

    Calling all trivia lovers! Please join Honors Student Council for its spring trivia night competition. We are partnering with local trivia master, Michael Hartman, to bring you this night of trivia and fun. Food and refreshments provided. Compete on your own or on a team of up to six. The top three teams will take home some fantastic prizes. All money raised at the event will benefit Camp Quality Kentuckiana.

    7.) HSC webinar on new NIH biosketch format

    This taped webinar will cover which accomplishments to include and what not to mention. Learn how to highlight your most important work without sounding self-serving and the basic components of a solid narrative. Early investigators are likely not to have a long track record for the narrative, therefore, your presenter will cover career-stage specific aspects of the narrative that tell your story in a unique way.     12.) The Physical Internet: Towards a new, interconnected era of smart, efficient and sustainable logistics

    This presentation introduces the Physical Internet as a means for addressing the Global Logistics Sustainability Grand Challenge. It presents the key constituents of the Physical Internet, then proceeds to introduce how it transforms the way physical goods are moved, stored, realized, supplied and used.

    13.) TEDxUofL 2015: Interconnected – Live streaming option

    TEDxUofL 2015: Interconnected is thrilled to announce a partnership with Switcher Studio for live streaming the event via YouTube. TEDxUofL 2015 is a half-day event that will focus on the interconnectedness of life through a series of short presentations – or TEDx talks – by speakers from many different fields of study. It is happening Feb. 28, 2015 and is organized into three sessions: Sustainability, Discovery and Dynamism. Speakers include UofL professors, students and community leaders

    15.) Governing by Lottery: May the Odds Be Ever in Your Favor

    In this McConnell Center Talk, Alexander Guerroro, PhD, JD, a philosophy professor at the University of Pennsylvania, will ask whether common complaints about American government could be fixed with a move to a system in which decision-makers were chosen by lot rather than election. This is the sixth of nine events in the McConnell Center’s “Debating America” lecture series.

    17.) Marco Polo and Dante talk scheduled: “The Globetrotter and the Astronaut”

    Sante Matteo, PhD, Italian professor at Miami University of Ohio, questions why these two contemporaries are rarely mentioned in the same breath. To Dante scholars, Marco Polo is practically invisible, while Marco Polo scholars never mention Dante. “Marco Polo takes us on a horizontal journey on the surface of the earth:through the world of immanence. Dante takes us instead on a vertical journey, away from the surface of the earth: a voyage of transcendence. Which path did Italy/Europe follow?
