    DID YOU KNOW?

Over the years, UofL Pediatrics has given out more than 100,000 new and used English- and Spanish-language books to its pint-sized patients (ages 2 months to 5 years). They are in need of new and used book donations to replenish their bookshelves! During the month of August, drop off donations at UofL Pediatrics offices on Eastern Parkway, N. Hurstbourne Parkway, Stonestreet Road or S. Floyd Street, or at Half Price Books or Carmichael’s KIDS. For more information, click here.

    Information Technology

1.) Firewall upgrade will take place during preventative maintenance

    Aug. 8, 10 p.m. to Aug. 9, 2 a.m.

University firewall devices will be upgraded to the latest software version during the regular preventative maintenance (PM) period Friday. This will cause Internet and network connectivity outages throughout the PM window. Please note that other systems (e.g. Blackboard, email, instant messaging, PeopleSoft, ULink, data services, etc.) may be also taken offline during this time without notice.

    Additional Information: IT HelpDesk, 852-7997.

    Miscellaneous

2.) Nucleus offering LaunchIT training programs for entrepreneurs

    Pre-proposal due Aug. 15; program Thursdays from Sept. 4 to Nov. 6, 6 to 9 p.m.

Designed for researchers interested in having their innovations reach consumers through licensing to an existing company or through a startup, LaunchIt will provide framework to critically evaluate commercial potential of innovative products, services and the path to successfully reach the consumer. The EVPRI will provide partial tuition reimbursement to UofL faculty/staff/students who successfully complete the competitive program. Pre-proposal due August 15.

    Additional Information: Website.

3.) Presentation spotlights electronic content, in-class activities in flipped classroom

Aug. 29, noon to 1 p.m., School of Nursing Auditorium, K Building, Room 4003

Join Steven Ellis, PhD and Kara Goodin, MD, for this one-hour lunch presentation that offers participants the chance to investigate alternative strategies for delivering electronic content and in-class activities in a flipped classroom setting. The presenters will provide an overview of “flipped teaching” as a pedagogical approach and will share their experiences and sample student feedback gathered over the past two years.

Additional Information: Learn more and register here.

4.) Have you taken care of your parking permit?

Campus parking permits need to be replaced by Aug. 25, and permits do not renew automatically. If you already have a permit this year, you should have received an email with instructions. If you don’t have one or didn’t get an email, click here. And don’t forget, UofL has a number of alternative transportation options ranging from free TARC rides with your UofL ID to car-sharing, bicycling and carpooling. They can save you money while helping to save the planet, so visit this website for more information.
