The University of Louisville Dance Academy was founded in 1972 and is the official school of the UofL Dance Theatre, a pre-professional, civic-level ballet company that prepares middle and high school age dancers to pursue ballet after high school graduation. The ULDA will perform at Iroquois Amphitheatre at 8 p.m. Sept. 3.

4.) NIH SBIR/STTR Commercialization Strategies Clinic to be held in Louisville

Organized by the Kentucky Science & Engineering Foundation, the event is designed to cover SBIR/STTR project commercialization strategies, what NIH Programs are available and how to leverage them to your advantage. 5.) Webinar: Understanding Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR)

This webinar will provide the research administrator with a practical overview of the Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR). The presenter will provide guidance on reviewing FAR clauses and determination if the clauses are applicable to the request for proposal or contract. Situational examples will be reviewed when FAR clauses are present in RFPs and contracts, which are not applicable. Tools and tips for fundamental research exemptions and acceptable practices will be discussed.

6.) #IAMACCEPTANCE Campaign set as part of National Suicide Prevention Week

As part of the Cards SPEAK launch and National Suicide Prevention week, the #IAMACCEPTANCE Campaign featuring nationally recognized speaker, advocate and educator, Hakeem Rahim, will focus on mental health on college campuses nationwide. Rahim will spread the message of It’s OK to talk about what you are going through, there is no shame in seeking help, there is hope if you are diagnosed with a mental illness. Hailed by The New York Times as “delightful and vocally strong and versatile,” Emily Albrink is a soprano whose young career already sports esteemed collaborations with venerable composers and conductors. Albrink graduated with a BFA in Musical Theatre from the University of Michigan and a Master of Music Degree and Professional Diploma from the Manhattan School of Music. She is on the voice faculty at UofL School of Music.

11.) School of Medicine faculty: ‘Challenges for Biomedical Scientists in Curriculum Revision: Embracing the Journey’

13.) Bioengineering Dept. Seminar Series presents ‘Adventures of a Cardiovascular Explorer’
Sept. 1, 12-1:30 p.m., Vogt Building, Room 311
NASA and its international partners are now planning on returning to the Moon, Mars, and destinations beyond. This presentation, by George Pantalos, will investigate aspects of how the cardiovascular system responds to the weightless of space flight, testing of emergency medical procedures for cardiac arrest, and the development of surgical capabilities for exploration class space flight missions. Pantalos has been a cardiovascular explorer for over four decades, and is a professor of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery and Biomedical Engineering at UofL.

Dr. Reis will present, “Motherhood and Mental Health.” The goals of the talk are to strengthen understanding of factors that increase women’s risk for mental illness during reproductive years, analyze how mental health diagnoses and/or treatment impacts pregnancy outcomes and how to utilize the new Pregnancy and Lactation Labeling Rule and Drug Registries when counseling patients.
