    Did You Know?

    Yeonmi Park, a 22-year-old North Korean defector, will be the first of three lectures for the Fall Speaker Series at The John H. Schnatter Center for Free Enterprise at UofL’s College of Business. Her Sept. 15 talk is titled “In Order to Live: My Journey to Freedom.”

    3.) Webinar: Understanding Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR)

    August 30, 2-3 p.m., Room 139, Shumaker Building, Belknap Campus, Belknap Campus

    This webinar will provide the research administrator with a practical overview of the Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR). The presenter will provide guidance on reviewing FAR clauses and determination if the clauses are applicable to the request for proposal or contract. Situational examples will be reviewed when FAR clauses are present in RFPs and contracts, which are not applicable. Tools and tips for fundamental research exemptions and acceptable practices will be discussed.

    4.) Post-bac pre-med program information session scheduled

    August 27, 12:30-1:30 p.m.; August 29, 5:30 p.m., Ekstrom Library Room 117

    The post-bac pre-med program for career changers will hold information sessions for college graduates with minimal pre-med level course work who are interested in preparing for medical school.

    5.) Call for Gender Equity/Professional Development Award nominations, applications

    October 7 deadline

    Nominations and applications for The Mary K. Tachau Gender Equity Award and the M. Celeste Nichols Professional Development Award are being accepted through Oct. 7. The Equity Award goes to a member of the UofL community whose work has directly furthered women’s equality and gender equity. The Nichols Award goes to a UofL graduate or professional school student to support academic and professional enrichment beyond normal program expenses.

    6.) Bioengineering Dept. Distinguished Seminar Series will examine Autism Spectrum Disorders

    Manuel F. Casanova, MD, the SMART State Endowed Chair in Translational Childhood Neurotherapeutics for the University of South Carolina School of Medicine and the Greenville Health System, will present on “Autism Spectrum Disorders: From Pathology to Treatment and Diagnosis.”

    7.) Information Security Office – Risk Assessment Training offered

Did you know that both PCI and HIPAA regulations require compliance monitoring and the completion of a periodic risk assessment?     8.) Gear up for the GRE in free workshop

    The School of Interdisciplinary and Graduate Studies and REACH are hosting a GRE test information workshop. UofL alumni and staff, post-baccalaureate students, current graduate and undergraduate students and community members are invited to attend. Please register, as space is limited.     UofL has a brand new ride-sharing and trip-planning service: Cardinal Directions is a portal to efficient, affordable, greener transportation options. Enter your starting address and destination and Cardinal Directions will display on one map all of your options for getting there: driving, carpools, transit, bike and walking routes, as well as carshare locations and intercity connections. Register for a free account and you can post rides and communicate with other users to set up carpools.
