    1.) UofL to celebrate campaign success with “Spectacular” 3D movie, family event

    Mind-blowing.  Awe-inspiring. And unlike anything ever seen on Belknap Campus.  UofL will celebrate the success of its $1 billion Charting Our Course campaign with “The Spectacular,” a free family event for faculty, staff, alumni and donors. “The Spectacular” will feature food, activities and musical entertainment, culminating in a 3D sound and light presentation projected directly onto Grawemeyer Hall.     2.) Migraine headache and the workplace, featuring Dr. Michael Sowell

    Dr. Michael Sowell, a UofL Physicians neurologist with the Comprehensive Headache Program, presents Migraine Headache and the Workplace. Reserve lunch ($5) by August 20 or reserve a listen-only ticket for free until the day of the event. Space is limited.

    3.) Faculty/Staff Discount: 2014 UofL Soccer Season Tickets at Lynn Stadium

    $45 General Admission, $60 Preferred ($75 per account donation) and $95 Premium ($100 per account donation)

    2014 UofL Soccer Season Ticket packages will include all 21 men’s and women’s regular season home matches. Lynn Stadium will officially open on Friday, August 29 and feature a doubleheader with our women’s team hosting Ole Miss at 6 p.m. and our men’s team hosting Maryland at 8:30 p.m.

    4.) Kentucky Lung Cancer Research Program Cycle 14 funding announced

    The KLCRP provides two-year peer-reviewed lung cancer grants to UofL faculty for basic, translational or clinical research. Priority will be given to applications focusing on innovative lung cancer research. Please submit a letter of intent by September 19, and full applications are due by close-of-business on October 10 to Diane Konzen, Brown Cancer Center, diane.konzen@louisville.edu. Awarded grants will start March 1, 2015.

    6.) Surplus warehouse to hold public auction

    The Surplus Warehouse, 1901 S. Floyd St., will hold a public auction Aug.23. The doors will open at 8 a.m. with the sale starting at 9:30 a.m. The warehouse will be open for preview on Aug. 22, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The list of auction items is available on the Surplus website under “Auction List.”

    8.) Save the date for the 8th Annual Anne Braden Memorial Lecture

    Nov. 11. 5:30 p.m., Belknap Playhouse

    Free and open to the public

    john a. powell, JD, executive director of the Haas Institute for a Fair and Inclusive Society at University of California Berkeley, will deliver this year’s lecture. powell is author of the 2012 book, Racing to Justice: Transforming Our Conceptions of Self and Other to Build an Inclusive Society. He has researched structural racialization, belonging and spirituality for more than a decade.
