    Did You Know?

    Warnock Street has been renamed University Boulevard and the flyover ramp (south of Old Eastern Parkway that connects Brook and Iowa streets) has been named the Brook Street Connector. New road signs are already in place for University Boulevard and remaining signage is on order and expected to be in place by the time classes begin.

    UofL Today with Mark Hebert

    1.) WHAS-TV, Great Day Live

    Mondays at 9:30 a.m. UofL’s Mark Hebert has a story about UofL and talks with Rachel Platt and Terry Meiners about campus events.  Segments can be found on YouTube.

    • Monday, Aug. 15: Conn Center camp for high school students from seven coal counties
    • WLKY-TV also runs the UofL stories on their Saturday morning newscasts

     

    2.) Radio Show

    Airs Mondays and Tuesdays at 6 p.m. on 93.9 FM The Ville; replayed on Saturday and Sunday mornings. Hebert hosts two weekly 30-minute programs focusing on research, programs, successful students and insights from UofL’s faculty experts. This week’s schedule:

    • Monday, Aug. 15: School counseling professor Ahmad Washington and Cassandra Webb from the Louisville Urban League discuss using hip hop culture to connect with kids in school; Virginia Denny and Robbie Chitwood promote professional and workforce training offered by UofL; James Chisholm and Kathy Whitmore from College of Education and Human Development are using Anne Frank to teach middle schoolers
    • Tuesday, Aug. 16: Dr. Craig McClain discusses new NIH designated center for alcohol research at UofL; Lee Bewley promotes new academic program for health care workers looking to finish a college degree; Fulbright scholar Ariel Weaver

    4.) Business Operations launches Onboarding; info sessions available

    Business Operations proudly announces the launch of Onboarding process for the hiring of student assistants, graduate assistants and temporaries. The new online workflow-driven process eliminates the need for the previous paper manual process. Information sessions, including a demo and an opportunity to ask questions and provide feedback, will be conducted on these dates:

    Aug. 16: 9-10:30 a.m., SAC Floyd Theater, Belknap

    Aug. 18: 8:30-10 a.m., CTR Building 101/102, HSC

    Aug. 18: 10:30 a.m.- 12 p.m., MITC Bigelow Hall, Belknap

    5.) Campus Housing move-in day volunteers needed

    August 17, 8:30-11:30 a.m. or 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. or 1:30-4:30 p.m.; all residence halls

    Campus Housing is excited to welcome more than 2,000 first-year students moving into the residence halls on our two Move-In Days on Aug.16 and Aug. 17. Help get our new students settled into their new campus homes. All registered volunteers will be provided a free lunch.

    6.) Belknap Ice Cream Social date change

    August 29, 2-4 p.m., Grawemeyer courtyard; Free

    Due to the increased threat for rain, the Ice Cream Social has been rescheduled for Monday, August 29, from 2 to 4 p.m., on the courtyard of Grawemeyer Hall. It will feature Comfy Cow ice cream.

    The Center for Predictive Medicine presents “Neutrophils and Oral Pathogens: Opposing forces in the dysbiosis battle,” by Silvia Uriarte, PhD, Associate Professor, School of Medicine, Molecular Signaling Group, Kidney Disease Program. Pizza and drinks will be provided.

    9.) Paid UofL Sustainability Internships available

    Aug. 25th application deadline

    Do you know students with a passion for advancing environmental, social and economic stewardship on campus? UofL’s Sustainability Council is offering paid internships in 2016-17 for undergrad or graduate students. Interns work up to 10 hours a week on tangible projects with council supervision. Positions available include: communications, composting, and zero waste.
