    DID YOU KNOW?

    Following the Kentucky Derby Festival Marathon/miniMarathon April 30, 87 UofL medical students will present their race medals to pediatric hematology/oncology patients as part of the annual Medals4Mettle program. The race medals are donated in recognition of patients’ determination in the face of a life-threatening disease.

    1.) KORU retreat will teach you how to focus, be resilient

    June 18, 10 a.m.- 2:15 p.m., Parklands of Floyds Fork Center; Faculty, staff & students: $12 fee includes lunch

    Description (Do not repeat any information you have already given above)

    Get Healthy Now, School of Nursing and Health Promotion Office invites you to our half-day KORU retreat at the peaceful Parklands of Floyds Fork. This silent retreat is useful for anyone who has already taken a KORU course or is new to mindfulness and meditation. Spaces are limited. Register online.

    2.) Put the ‘Fun’ in Functional Fitness

    Saturdays, 9:30-10:15 a.m., Get Healthy Now Wellness Center, Humana Gym; Free for GHN Wellness Center members

    This class focuses on core fitness that can easily translate into daily activities and incorporates all of the major muscle groups as well as the muscles you never knew you had. You will get efficient quality functional movements that will enhance and nourish your spine, revitalize your postural muscles and strengthen your core with every movement. Exercises are shown at different skill levels so each person can work to their own individual competency.

    3.) Give your workout a kick with GHN’s Cardio Kick & Sculpt

    Fridays, 5:30-6:30 p.m., Get Healthy Now Wellness Center at Humana Gym; Free for GHN Wellness Center members

    Join GHN for an action-packed workout that improves strength, muscle tone, endurance, and help you stick to your fitness goals and includes interval training exercises that will have you shredding calories. All moves are modified based on fitness level.

    4.) GHN Derby modified hours of operation announced

    The GHN Wellness Center will operate on a modified schedule over Derby weekend. We will be open on Friday, May 6, 6 a.m.-6 p.m., and will be closed on Saturday, May 7. Normal hours of operation will resume on Sunday, May 8.

    7.) Street closures planned for this weekend affect HSC campus

    Because of the Kentucky Derby Festival Marathon and miniMarathon, a number of streets will be closed downtown in and around the HSC campus on Saturday, April 30, 7 a.m. until 4 p.m. Additionally, there will be no parking from midnight April 29 to 6 p.m. April 30. Street closures will also affect some parts of the Belknap campus.

    8.) Presidential Exemplary Multicultural Teaching Award deadline approaching

    The UofL Diversity Programming Committee of CODRE and the Vice Provost for Diversity & International Affairs encourage students, faculty, academic departments, administrators, alumni, and trustees, to nominate members of the university teaching staff for this award. Nominees must have demonstrated excellence in their teaching and scholarship through the utilization of teaching styles, culturally pluralistic and socially constructed ideals, course content and processed incorporating multicultural and global perspectives. Criteria and nomination form can be found online.

    9.) Presidential Exemplary Multicultural Engagement Staff Award deadline approaching

    This award recognizes a part or full-time staff member who has demonstrated through organization, leadership, and mentoring, the ability to promote the value of diversity and inclusion within the university setting. The winner should demonstrate merit not based only on the functions of his or her job, but also on extraordinary commitment beyond what would be considered satisfactory levels of job performance. Exemplary multicultural engagement involves effective guidance and mentoring, critical thinking to support active and reflective learning for our students to achieve success, and demonstrating relevant events or opportunities to enhance human diversity.
