Five UofL athletic teams – women’s basketball, men’s and women’s golf, women’s track and field and women’s cross country – received a perfect Academic Progress Rate score for 2014-15. APR scores measure student-athletes’ academic eligibility, retention and graduation. The NCAA released this information on April 20.

11.) GlobalProtect VPN available for secure remote network access
Information Technology’s Virtual Private Network (VPN) allows users to securely access the university’s internal network from a remote location. A VPN should always be used when accessing sensitive information from outside the university such as HIPAA, FERPA and research data. Users must request a VPN account and install the software. UofL’s VPN has additional support for mobile devices as well as traditional support for Windows (including Windows 10) and MAC OS.

13.) Childhood Obesity in Children 10 to less than 14 year olds

The UofL Kosair Charities Pediatric Clinical Research Unit at Kosair Children’s Hospital is conducting a research study to evaluate the effect of an investigational product on childhood obesity. White and African American male and female subjects 10 to less than 14 years old who are overweight, obese or normal weight may be eligible. If a child qualifies to participate, he or she will receive the product or placebo and study related care at no cost. Compensation will be provided for time/travel.

14.) Autism study for children 4 to 10 years old

The UofL Kosair Charities Pediatric Clinical Research Unit at Kosair Children’s Hospital is conducting a clinical research study to evaluate how a medication treats abnormal EEG’s without seizures, as well as behavioral and neurological symptoms, in children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). If a child qualifies to take part in this research study, he/she will receive the study medication or placebo and study-related care at no cost. Parents will be offered compensation for time/travel.

15.) Exercise Physiology Department seeking research participants

The Exercise Physiology department is seeking subjects for a project funded by the NASA/Kentucky Space Grant Consortium. The project will assess muscle and bone changes resulting from a 10-week exercise program. As part of their involvement, participants will receive two free total-body scans

16.) Anne Braden Institute for Social Justice Research Paper Awards criteria set
April 28, 4 p.m. deadline
Open to any UofL student, the papers should engage one or more social justice topics. Paper must be 8 to 25 pages in length, not including reference pages.
Winning papers will be announced May 10, with a $300 prize for Best Graduate Essay and $100 each for two Best Undergraduate Essays.
