    DID YOU KNOW?

     

    Inscope Medical Solutions, a UofL College of Business student team, continues to win accolades for its intubation technology. Inscope is a finalist for the annual Vogt awards, administered by Greater Louisville Inc.’s Enterprise Corp., which supports startups. Finalists receive $20,000 and help to get their ideas to the marketplace; the Vogt award winner receives $100,000 for further development. Inscope will join four other finalists Nov. 17 to make presentations to investors.

    1.) Tomorrow! Cards Under the Stars: ‘Big Hero 6’ and “Avengers: Age of Ultron” Double Feature

    Saturday, Aug. 29, 6:30 p.m., on the lawn between the Natural Sciences Building and Grawemeyer Hall, first movie begins at dusk

    Free admission

    Grab a blanket, lawn chairs and a cooler and bring the family for the last summer movie night of the summer: a superhero double feature including “Big Hero 6” and Avengers: Age of Ultron. Let the kids enjoy our inflatable park and games, “Big Hero 6” photo area and other activities. Bring a picnic or purchase concessions from Sweet ‘N Savory and POLLO food trucks.

    Free for employees, spouses and QAs

    Beyond simply decreasing your stress, this evidence-based KORU workshop will help you learn skills to find more satisfaction in your daily life. The course is designed to help you learn mindfulness through the practice of specific skills that calm and focus your mind and through the practice of meditation. If you are feeling pressured and stressed, or are just interested in learning a new skill that can enrich your life, these classes are for YOU! Beginners and experienced meditators welcome.

    3.) One week left for 2015 Lifestyle Change Award nominations

    The American Heart Association and GHN want to recognize those who have made positive changes to improve their quality of life. GHN wants to hear your inspiring stories so we can applaud these efforts and motivate others to make similar changes. Nominations for the Lifestyle Change Award can be submitted by anyone and individuals can nominate themselves. The deadline to submit your nomination is Sept. 1. Please send a copy to GHN.

    4.) New VPN Implementation on September 18

    On Sept. 18, Information Technology will implement a new Virtual Private Network (VPN). A VPN allows users to securely access the university’s internal network from a remote location. A VPN should always be used when accessing sensitive information from outside the university such as HIPAA, FERPA and research data. Users must request a VPN account and an install is required. The new VPN has mobile support as well as traditional support for Windows (including Windows 10) and MAC OS.

    5.) Women Veterans Brown Bag Lunch & Learn workshop series

    Aug. 31, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Clinical & Translational Research Building, Room 123

    Free; reservations requested

    Are you a military veteran? Active duty, reservist or National Guard? Stop by the Women Veteran Brown Bag Lunch & Learn Workshop event. The theme is Women Veterans in Business and panelists will include representatives from the Small Business Administration (SBA) and the Women’s Business Center. Bring your lunch; light refreshments provided. This event is being sponsored by the UofL Women’s Center and the Office of Military & Veterans Services, in conjunction with Athena’s Sisters.

    6.) Cards Writing Cards volunteers needed

    Alumni volunteers on campus are needed to help write congratulatory notes to recent graduates. This is a great way to support our new alumni in a quick and easy way and stay connected with your alma mater. Complete the form below and we will mail you stationery, addresses, stamped envelopes and a sample letter to guide your notes.
