UofL students to participate in commencement ceremony May 9

    LOUISVILLE, Ky. – More than 1,000 students are expected to participate in the University of Louisville’s main commencement ceremony May 9 at 1 p.m. in Freedom Hall at the Kentucky Exposition Center. UofL expects to award about 3,200 degrees this semester.

    University President James Ramsey will deliver the commencement address, and Trustees Award winner John Kielkopf, a professor of physics and astronomy, will also speak.

    Before the ceremony, students may attend the president’s reception in the North Wing atrium at the exposition center from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

    This year’s student speaker will be Boris Chernomordik, a graduate of UofL’s J.B. Speed School of Engineering. Chernomordik will receive a master’s degree in engineering. His accomplishments include being selected as a finalist for the prestigious Hertz Foundation Graduate Fellowship program, and receiving a 2006 UofL Grawemeyer Scholarship, the 2008 Tau Beta Pi Centennial Graduate Fellowship and, as a sophomore, the Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship. He is a 2004 graduate of DuPont Manual High School in Louisville.

    The university has several commencement-related ceremonies, including a doctoral hooding ceremony at 9:30 a.m. May 9 for 60-70 graduates.
