Louisville, Ky. – Eight members of the University of Louisville Department of Internal Medicine have been accepted for membership in the prestigious Southern Society for Clinical Investigation, a regional academic society dedicated to the advancement of medical research and committed to encouraging students, residents and fellows to enter academic medicine and to support junior faculty success in clinical investigation.
“The Southern Society for Clinical Investigation has a long tradition – dating back to 1946 – and we’re thrilled that all of the UofL candidates who submitted applications for membership were accepted this year,” said Jesse Roman, chair of the department of medicine at UofL. “Membership into the society is an honor that is conferred after the council considers candidates’ nomination letters, CVs and other documents, so this speaks to these individuals’ accomplishments, research productivity, leadership and other important criteria.”
The eight UofL faculty members are Jason Chesney of the division of oncology; Rodney Folz and Jason Kelley of the division of pulmonary, critical care and sleep disorders medicine; Eleanor Lederer of the division of nephrology; Roberto Bolli and Sumanth Prabhu of the division of cardiology; and Charlene Mitchell and Monica Shaw of general internal medicine.
UofL had the highest number of submissions this year of any institution. The society has just started a mentor program designed to assist junior faculty members in finding advisers in their areas of interest; it also hosts an annual meeting each year. This year’s meeting will be held next month in New Orleans.
