LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Archivist, historian and former Louisville alderman Tom Owen will discuss Louisville’s historical pocket Black neighborhoods during a U of L Community Spotlight program Tuesday, Feb. 19, at 4 p.m. at the Catholic Enrichment Center, 3112 W. Broadway.

Owen will lead discussion and provide commentary on the many small enclaves of Black residences that existed within the city of Louisville. Many small African-American neighborhoods were surrounded by many of Louisville’s larger white neighborhoods, including Clifton Heights, Highland Park, South Louisville and Portland. Others, such as Bingham, Bottoms, Smoketown and Black Hill, had their own distinct identities.
