    Elevate, UofL’s official crowdfunding platform, launches today (April 24). The platform features noteworthy university initiatives and enables the community to engage with and support projects that are meaningful to them. Elevate also gives students, faculty and staff an opportunity to share their stories and impact their respective areas. 
     
    FACULTY AND STAFF NOTABLES
    Dr. Adel Elmaghraby, professor and chair of the Computer Engineering and Computer Science Department, and Dr. Adrian Lauf, assistant professor in the Computer Engineering and Computer Science Department, are presenting at the World Affairs Council of Kentucky and Southern Indiana April 26. Their topic is “Armchair Warfare: A Conversation about Cybersecurity.”

    Monday, April 24: The new dean of UofL’s School of Dentistry, Gerry Bradley, talks about research, outreach and how he got to UofL from Ireland. Dr. Greg Barnes is the head of UofL’s Autism Center which provides services for families dealing with autism. 
    Wednesday, April 26: The Kent School of Social Work’s new dean, David Jenkins, discusses his path to Louisville, the social work profession and the future of Kent School. The director of UofL’s center for Asian Democracy, Jason Abbott, talks about North Korea.

    Go365 email and calendaring migration
    Information Technology is in the first phase of implementing Microsoft Office365 services and products for employees. UofL’s go365 begins soon with a migration of all email and calendaring. All employee and sponsored Exchange/Outlook accounts will be migrated in groups starting next month into early fall. IT has a dedicated website for information as it becomes available and will work closely with Tier1 staff to assist everyone for a successful transition. Employees will be notified in advance of their scheduled migration date and will be able to find it on ULink under Personal Info. General customer service and technical support is available both before and after this migration date.

    April 29 parking restrictions, road closures set for Derby Marathon
    Many streets will be closed and parking prohibited near UofL Saturday, April 29, for the Kentucky Derby Festival Marathon and Mini-Marathon. Streets to be closed from early morning through late afternoon include Third Street from Central Avenue to Broadway, Fourth Street from Broadway to Oakdale Avenue and Broadway from Baxter Avenue to Third Street. Parking along the route will be prohibited from midnight Friday through 4 p.m. Saturday.

    Graduate student picnic

    All graduate students are invited to a picnic in celebration of those graduate students who are graduating this year. Grilled food and drinks provided. There will great conversation and plenty of games, such as cornhole. We encourage you to bring guests and a side dish.

    2017 Presidential Exemplary Multicultural Teaching Award

    The Presidential Exemplary Multicultural Teaching Award is designed to affirm, value, honor, and recognize members of the University teaching staff who incorporates multicultural and global perspectives into their scholarship, teaching practices and research; accepts the educational principles that cultural literacy should be infused into the core of scholarly research and that education transmits the cumulative knowledge of human kind reflected in a global society.

    2017 Presidential Exemplary Multicultural Engagement Staff Award
    Deadline for nomination submissions is May 12; the deadline for candidate’s form and statement is May 12
    The purpose of this award is to recognize a part or full-time staff member who has demonstrated through their organization, leadership, and mentoring, the ability to promote the value of diversity and inclusion within the university setting. The winner of this award should demonstrate merit not based only on the functions of his or her job, but also on extraordinary commitment beyond what would be considered satisfactory levels of job performance.

    Lab Safety and Hazardous Waste Training

    Recently hired lab employees who work with chemicals should attend this training. Recurrent training for lab employees is required every three years and may be completed in Bioraft (online refresher training). Bring employee/student ID number to sign in. Attendees can pre-register online, however advanced registration is not required.

    Participants for Prayer Research needed
    April 24
    Research participants needed! Researchers at the University of Louisville and Penn State are looking for participants to complete a 45-minute survey on their private prayer behaviors and beliefs. Questions or concerns about the study can be directed to Dr. Stephanie Winkeljohn Black. The study has been approved by the IRBs at the University of Louisville (IRB # 16.1255) and Penn State.
