Called “Music eX,” the series, Biran said, is intended not only to raise scholarship money, but also to help audiences and students “eXplore, eXpress, eXemplify and eXperience works by composers ranging from the Baroque era to the present.”
Here’s an overview of the schedule:
- Oct. 15. Complete Brahms violin sonatas, features Max Rabinovitsj, former concertmaster of the Ottawa Philharmonic
- Nov. 6. Brahms piano solo recital, four ballades and the Intermezzi Opus 118 and 116
- Jan. 29. Complete Brahms cello sonatas, features faculty artist Paul York, cello
- Feb. 12. Chamber Music for Piano and Strings, features faculty artists J. Patrick Rafferty and Brittany MacWilliams, violins, and Paul York, cello, Op. 25 in G Minor and Op. 34 in F Minor
All concerts are in Margaret Comstock Concert Hall and begin at 3 p.m. A lecture precedes each performance at 2:15 p.m. Patron tickets are $50 for all four concerts. Individual concert admission is $15 each.

The series is Biran’s first major piano series since he joined the UofL faculty. Born in Israel, Biran has been awarded top prizes in international competitions and has performed internationally with major orchestras.
