Sodexo staff and fundraising partners Alpha Tau Omega fraternity revealed the grand total and presented the check to Dare to Care representatives during a ceremony at the Student Recreation Center on April 22.
Sodexo at UofL has hosted a Dare to Care fundraiser each semester the past three years with support from Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. The previous record was $11,657.48, raised in spring 2013.
Donations were accepted at all UofL Belknap Campus dining venues April 14 to 18, coinciding with Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer’s Week of Service. Patrons could choose to donate cash, credit and meal plan flex points. Students were by far the No. 1 contributors. Members of Alpha Tau Omega dubbed the campaign “Flex to Feed,” encouraging their fellow students to use their meal plan flex points to feed the hungry in our own community. According to Dare to Care’s website, one in six individuals in our community lacks enough food to lead an active, healthy life.
