The center appears on a “50 Oases of Excellence” online directory released June 5 by the American Council of Trustees and Alumni, a national, non-profit group based in Washington, D.C.

The directory lists programs that do an outstanding job of promoting the study of U.S. history, Western civilization, political theory, economics, leadership and great books.

The non-partisan McConnell Center, created at UofL in 1991, prepares Kentucky’s top college undergraduate students to become future leaders and offers civic education programs for teachers, students and the general public. Gary Gregg has directed the center since 2000.

“These programs are an effective way to change the culture of the academy from the inside,” said ACTA president Anne Neal. “Now, alumni and donors will have a single, comprehensive database where they can learn about the wonderful work these ‘oases’ do.”
