Hometown: Detroit, Mich.

First job and what I learned from it: Professor and chair pathology, University of Maryland Baltimore, and associate dean for research and postgraduate education (School of Dentistry). Professor, pathology, School of Medicine and Greenebaum Cancer Center. Take risks and ask big questions and always shun mediocrity.

The thing I like most about what I do: The challenge of discovery and working with energetic, enthusiastic and witty people.
