Frazier earned a bachelor’s degree in history and an MBA from UofL. He co-founded and chaired HFH Inc., a real estate company, and was known for his civic leadership.
UofL officials and the Frazier family watched the unveiling of a plaque honoring Frazier and the newly named Harry Frazier Hall.
Speaking to the group gathered for the event, UofL President James Ramsey praised Frazier for his success in business and for making the Louisville community stronger.
“He was an entrepreneur who shaped his community with heart, friendship and enthusiasm for building upscale communities around leisure amenities. His legacy thrives in many real estate developments contributing to the livability of Louisville today,” Ramsey said. “He personified the spirit of entrepreneurship.”
UofL has named the building after Frazier in recognition of a $5 million donation from Frazier’s family. That gift is part of a multimillion campaign goal to name entire College of Business after Frazier. Owsley Brown Frazier, Harry’s brother, a UofL alumnus and recent chairman of the university’s Board of Trustees also has donated $5 million to the college.
The donation, said business Dean Charles Moyers, will help the college continue to enhance its academic programs and student services.
“This is the kind of support every dean dreams about. So we hope to use it to make other dreams come true,” he said.
Moyer also announced that the College of Business will create a new faculty post: the Frazier Family Distinguished Faculty Chair in Entrepreneurial Strategy. The new post, he said, also was made possible through the family’s support. Frazier is survived by his wife, Jean, and their three children, George, Sandra and Virginia.
