All the free, public events run from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on the second Sunday of each month from September to April at the Yearlings Club, 4309 W. Broadway. The September event featured Jefferson County Public Schools Superintendent Donna Hargens.

The fall series includes:

Oct. 14 – “Connecting the Community with the Media,” featuring Bennie Ivory, The Courier-Journal executive editor; Ken Selvaggi, WAVE-TV vice president and general manager; and John Ferré, UofL College of Arts and Sciences acting dean and communication professor. Dana Seay, assistant professor of communication, will moderate discussion about how local media outlets select stories for coverage and evaluate community news.

Nov. 11 – “Post-election Analysis: The Election’s Over,” featuring panelists State Sen. Gerald Neal, Louisville NAACP President Raoul Cunningham and UofL professors Ricky Jones, Pan-African studies, and Sherri Wallace, political science. Dewey Clayton, political science professor, will moderate political discussion of what candidates and campaigns did well or wrong.

Dec. 9 – Holiday reception featuring the Jerry Tolson Group.

Now in its eighth year, the lecture series seeks to bring residents and university faculty members together to discuss issues, share expertise and forge common bonds. The Yearlings Club is devoted to promoting civic responsibility, community service and leadership development. UofL’s College of Arts and Sciences’ international, diversity and outreach programs office sponsors the series.
