2.) HSC Town Hall meeting is today
March 24, 5 p.m., HSC Auditorium
Please join Dr. David Dunn, executive vice president for health affairs, and the deans of the four health-related schools at a Town Hall meeting. The topic to be discussed is a status report on the shared service project. The floor will then be open for questions. Pizza, water and soft drinks will be available at the conclusion at approximately 5:30 p.m.
3.) Today: Law school forum and Q/A with David Boies open to UofL community

Trial lawyer David Boies is author of “Redeeming the Dream: The Case for Marriage Equality,” which details his triumph in the landmark Supreme Court case that struck down Proposition 8, reinstating the freedom to marry for gays and lesbians in California. Copies of his book will be available for purchase.

4.) University community invited to Ali scholar conference on SAE controversy

The Ali scholar conference “Peace and Justice in the 21st Century” is an interactive conversation on current events. The SAE controversy will be discussed. In 1967, Martin Luther King Jr. said, “There can be no justice without peace and there can be no peace without justice.” We ask students — our future leaders — what does this statement mean today in light of current events in the United States and global events? What does peace and justice mean to you, your community, your nation and our world? This event is sponsored by the Muhammad Ali Institute for Peace and Justice in collaboration with the Peace, Justice, and Conflict Transformation Program, the Martin Luther King, Jr. (MLK) Scholars Program for Peace and Social Justice and the Anne Braden Institute. This event is funded by the Office of the Vice Provost for Diversity and International Affairs and the Commission on Diversity and Racial Equality [CODRE].

6.) University-wide undergraduate research and community engagement symposium

The Office of the Executive Vice President for Research and Innovation is sponsoring the annual Undergraduate Research Symposium. Students, faculty and the community can discuss cutting-edge research topics, examine the connection between research and education and explore the broad range of research at UofL. 7.) Adolescent Diversion Program needs qualified students
Do you know an undergraduate student who would be interested in serving the youth of our community and receiving academic credit? The Adolescent Diversion Project is looking for qualified students to be mentors to youth involved in the juvenile justice system. Intensive training and supervision will be provided throughout two semesters of coursework (6 credit hours). Students from all majors are encouraged to apply. The next cohort of students begins in the fall semester

8.) The art market for the other 99 percent

Susan Jarosi, professor of Women’s and Gender Studies and Art History, will explore the ways in which economic histories of the arts can inform the study of the markets for contemporary art. Though mention of the art market typically calls to mind headlines proclaiming record auction sales at Christie’s, such events are not representative of the way in which most people buy art. Jarosi will look for clues as to how we might better understand the art market for the other 99%.
