    Following yesterday’s announcement of Alumnus of the Year, the UofL Alumni Association is honored to announce the 2016 Alumni Fellows who have distinguished themselves in their chosen fields and are exemplary UofL ambassadors.     2.) The Digital Media Suite is reopening

    Aug. 22, 10 a.m., Digital Media Suite, Ekstrom Library

    The Digital Media Suite (DMS) will reopen on August 22 with a variety of new and updated resources and services. Learn how you or your students can check out AVl equipment, record in our green screen studio, create digital media assignments with Adobe Creative Cloud apps, or utilize Apple or Android phones and tablets for course work.     3.) HSC Ice Cream Social set for next week

    July 27, 2-4 p.m., HSC Plaza; Free

    The annual Health Sciences Campus Ice Cream Social will be held July 27, from 2 to 4 p.m., on the HSC Plaza. It will feature Comfy Cow ice cream.

    4.) Submit your 2016 Homecoming events by Aug. 1

    Homecoming is set for Saturday, Oct. 22, and the Alumni Association wants to include your Homecoming Week event in our alumni mailer and/or on our website. In order for your event to be included, you must submit your event details by Monday, Aug. 1 online. All events must be submitted online.

    5.) Fire hydrant safety testing planned for Belknap Campus

    Please be advised that the Physical Plant Life Safety Department will be conducting Fire Pump & Fire Hydrant Safety Testing on Belknap Campus, July 25 through July 27, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.

    6.) Cards Under the Stars concludes tonight with ‘Inside Out’

    July 22, 6:30 p.m., on the lawn between the Natural Sciences Building and Grawemeyer Hall, movie begins at dusk; Free admission

    Cards Under the Stars featuring “Inside Out” is Friday, July 22. Bring a blanket, lawn chairs and a cooler or purchase concessions onsite food trucks 502 Café and SnoWhat Snoballs. Activities include inflatables, crafts, and appearance by the Louisville League of Mascots. Cards under the Stars is sponsored by Commonwealth Credit Union.

    7.) Campus Housing offering staff and faculty tours

    July 28, 8:30 a.m-12:45 p.m. or 1 p.m.-5 p.m.; July 29, 8:30 a.m.-12:45 p.m. or 1-5 p.m., Stevenson Hall Lobby

    Campus Housing will offer tours of the upper class Affiliate Housing & Off-Campus Housing Apartment Complexes for all faculty and staff. Take the tour to see the communities that your students are living, where they experience state-of-the-art amenities, spacious floor plans, and an experience that compliments their college lifestyle. There are two different tour times on two different days. Space is limited on each tour.

    8.) Sigma Xi, The Scientific Research Society, Distinguished Lecture on Cannabis

    August 4, 7-9 p.m., Louisville Free Public Library, Main Branch, 301 York St.; Free, but tickets are needed

    “The Cannabis Conundrum: The genetics & politics of America’s most controversial plant,” will be presented by DL Dr. George Weiblen of the Univ. of Minnesota. He studies the genetics of cannabis and challenges opinions on all sides of the debate of cannabis, used for fiber, oil, nutritious seeds, and psychoactive drugs.

    9.) 2016 KY Lung Cancer Program Scientists’ Seminar call-for-abstracts

    October 15, 8:30 a.m.- 3 p.m., William T. Young Library, University of Kentucky Campus; Free

    This symposium, between UK Markey Cancer Center and UofL Brown Cancer Center, will feature a series of short talks by faculty from both institutions, a poster session, and keynote presentation by Dr. John D. Minna, UT Southwestern Medical Center. This event highlights ongoing lung cancer research at each institution. If you are conducting in lung cancer research, we hope you will submit an abstract. Submit abstracts thru Sept. 23.
