    ·       PHOTOS: UofL alumni who graduated in 1965 were inducted last week into the Golden Alumni Society. The new members were honored with a luncheon and given a commemorative UofL medallion and had the opportunity to walk across the stage at Sunday’s commencement. A special recognition was also held for ROTC Golden Alumni, who received a certificate of recognition for their service. View photos here.

    Dr. Brandon Dennis will present Deep Brain Stimulation: Effects on Memory and Cognition at this month’s conference. CME and CEU credit will be awarded to MDs, DOs, and RNs who attend.

    May 18 is Women Vets ROCK! Day on Campus. If you are a woman veteran, stop by during your lunch break for the It’s a Spring Fling: Pamper Military Women event, which will feature beauty experts and vendors. The Women Vets Rock! Day on Campus is in the interest of women veterans, active duty, national guard, reservists, military families and widows.

    3.) Green Tip: Friday is Bike to Work Day

    May 15, 11:45 a.m., group rides to 4th Street Live leave from Belknap’s North Info Center and HSC’s Kornhauser Library

    Ride with UofL and register to win a bike! Get Healthy Now and UofL’s Sustainability Council invite you to try a cheaper, healthier cleaner and happier way to get to work! Pedal to campus and then join UofL group rides to the city’s Bike to Work Day celebration at 4th Street Live. We leave at 11:45 a.m. from Belknap’s North Info Center and HSC’s Kornhauser Library. You can also join group rides to/from work connecting downtown with Shawnee, Seneca, Iroquois or Southern Indiana. Join us rain or shine to celebrate fun, sustainable transport!

    Additional Information: All riders must have helmet. Register for bike to work day and enter raffle for a new bicycle.

    4.) Digital Media Suite closed for summer

    Due to renovations in the Ekstrom Library, the Digital Media Suite will be closed for the summer. If you need assistance with creating multimedia content or plan to assign a digital media project for the summer or fall semesters, please contact Ron Schildnecht at the Delphi Center for Teaching and Learning.

    5.) Nursing continuing education units announced

    The UofL Schools of Dentistry and Nursing are proud to announce that the Kentucky Board of Nursing has approved a nurse administrator for providing nursing continuing education units at the School of Dentistry. Our first interdisciplinary effort will be: “Local Anesthesia for Advanced Nursing: Acute Dental Pain Management in a Primary Care Setting.”

    6.) From the Bursar:  Processing deadline for year-end transmittals deadline

    With the current fiscal year-end quickly approaching, all departments that utilize the University Bursar’s Office for their financial transmittals please note that in order for these transmittals and deposits to be posted in this current fiscal year, the transmittals and deposits would need to be received by no later than 4 p.m. on Monday, June 29.

    7.) Enhancing Clinical Skills with Ethnically and Racially Diverse Clients

    Given the increasing diversity of clients seeking mental health care, there is an urgent need to enhance the cultural sensitivity of therapeutic interventions with ethnic and racial minority populations. These two workshops will provide you with the tools needed to successfully incorporate cultural factors into therapy. Part 1 provides essential information about the ethnic minority experience and the mental health risks they face. Part 2 focuses on proficient application of therapeutic strategies.
