LOUISVILLE, Ky. – A team of University of Louisville students will compete in the “Super Bowl” of business plan contests in May after earning top regional honors and a $10,000 award.

The team of five graduate students from the Forcht Center for Entrepreneurship in UofL’s College of Business were named champions at the University of Cincinnati Spirit of Enterprise business plan competition Feb. 24-25.

The team now advances to the national Venture Labs Investment Competition at the University of Texas-Austin May 4-7.

The students won for their plan to create FlyVax, a patented vaccine targeting the $1 billion in losses incurred by cattle farmers from parasitic horn flies. They will use their prize money to continue developing the vaccine for commercial launch.

UofL’s team beat out 14 others in the regional contest, including Johns Hopkins, Carnegie Mellon and Brigham Young universities.
