LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Charlie Moyer has announced he will step down as dean of the University of Louisville’s College of Business in July 2013.
Moyer, 66, has served in the position since 2005. He plans to take a one-year sabbatical to study corporate governance and entrepreneurial finance before he returns as the college’s dean emeritus and a faculty member in its Department of Finance.
He also will lead the college as it seeks re-accreditation by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business in 2013.
During Moyer’s tenure, the college earned a reputation as the top business school in Kentucky and its entrepreneurship program has consistently been ranked as one of the best in the nation.
“It’s been a privilege to work with our faculty and staff, advisory boards, alumni, supporters, corporate partners and university administration to make the college all it can be,” Moyer said. “I’m very proud of all we’ve accomplished and we’re not finished yet.”
The university will launch a national search for Moyer’s successor next spring.
“I’m a big fan of Charlie Moyer’s,” said UofL President James Ramsey. “He’s continued the transformation and the commitment to quality and excellence in our business school. I’m elated that he’s agreed to delay his retirement for 20 months.”
Besides establishing the Forcht Center for Enterpreneurship at UofL’s College of Business, Moyer developed and expanded UofL’s corporate partnerships and sharpened the college’s focus on economic development in the region. He also added distinguished faculty and raised academic standards for students.
Earlier this year, a team of students in the college’s entrepreneurship MBA program took top honors in one of the world’s most prestigious business competitions.
