The congressman made the announcement at the university’s new Clinical and Translational Research Building. UofL President James Ramsey and researchers from the initiatives joined him.
The funding was approved in two appropriations that recently were signed into law:
- $350,000 for UofL’s Meteorology and Atmospheric Science Program was secured in the FY2010 Energy and Water Appropriations Act.
- At least $1.6 million for the Comprehensive Trauma/Organ Injury Program was secured jointly by Yarmuth and Sen. Mitch McConnell in the Department of Defense Appropriations Act.
- $1 million for the Radio Frequency Identification Technologies Program was secured jointly by Yarmuth, McConnell and Sen. Jim Bunning in defense authorization. Yarmuth and McConnell had secured $800,000 for the program in last year’s federal budget.
UofL drives growth and jobs creation, Yarmuth said.
These investments will help researchers right here in Louisville accomplish goals of national significance while solidifying our community’s position as a world-class research center, he said.
Ramsey commended Yarmuth for understanding the importance of education and research.
