White Coat ceremonies, so named because they mark the first times students put on their white coats, is the first taste of their professional careers and rites of passage into the health care community.

Medical Dean Edward Halperin, Dental Dean John Sauk and other medical and dental school faculty helped each student on with his or her coat.

A total of 310 students took part in the ceremonies. Of the 160 medical students, 120 are Kentucky residents. The incoming dental class has 120 students, of which 44 are Kentucky residents. The remainder come from 21 different states. All but six of the 30 dental hygiene students come from in-state.
