If you have received the following examples, please delete them immediately:

  • •email from “invitations @ twitter.com” with the subject “Your Friend Invited you to Twitter” including an attachment titled “invitationcard.zip”
  • •Email from “resume-thanks @ google.com” with the subject “Thank You From Google!” including the attachment titled “cv-20100120-112.zip”
  • •E-card notices from “e-cards @ hallmark.com”

Never open zip files you are not expecting to receive.  When you receive a suspicious email like this, forward the note as an attachment (select the forward as attachment option from the GroupWise menu) to secureit@louisville.edu  to confirm its legitimacy prior to opening an attachment.

Information Technology has submitted samples of these virus-infected emails to Symantec, UofL’s virus protection provider, so that they may create new virus definition files to catch these emails before they reach your inbox.
