UofL medical student opens letter revealing her residency match.
March Madness isn’t only about basketball. March 17 was a day of joy and excitement as more than 120 fourth-year UofL medical students opened their envelopes to learn where they will continue medical training after receiving their MD degrees in May. For many, Match Day is more exciting than graduation day.

The National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) administers a uniform process for matching medical school applicants with residency programs based on the preferences of both. A matching algorithm uses those preferences to place individuals into positions. Each year on the third Friday of March at noon, fourth-year medical students throughout the United States participating in the NRMP all receive their envelopes at the same time.
