University of Louisville teams swept the third annual Idea State U Competition April 16-17. The teams won the concept and business plan divisions and both the undergraduate and graduate levels. UofL student Joe Rotella had the best graduate elevator pitch, and undergraduate team Biometric Ease won the Governor’s Technology Award for the concept that best demonstrates innovative thinking, offers to improve the quality of life for Kentuckians and others and possesses a significant wow factor.
Kentucky’s statewide new business concept and business plan contest, Idea State U is designed to encourage innovation and entrepreneurship and is open to student teams from the commonwealth’s eight four-year state universities.
UofL ROTC was the top ROTC team at the Sandhurst Military Skills Competition April 9-10 at the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, NY. The team’s finishing time was 6:24:15. The competition tests teams, including those from USMA, on such skills as marksmanship, reconnaissance and administering first aid, as well application of military tactics. Eight ROTC programs were invited to participate.
A team of seven students from UofL’s College of Business and Speed School of Engineering earned second place in the National Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition in San Antonio April 16-18. The only team placing higher was Northeastern University in Boston. College students who take part in the contest develop plans to defend a business computer network from cyber attacks. Eight teams that won regional competitions advanced to the national finals.
