Workers now have finished putting the steel beams in place for the 20,000-square-foot addition, which will include a new entrance to the school. Completion is scheduled for fall 2011.

These upgrades will have far-reaching effects on our capacity for innovation and will help bring us closer to our goal to become a premier metropolitan research university, said Larry Cook, executive vice president for health affairs.

The oral surgery and radiology clinics already are complete with new chairs, lighting, cabinetry and touch-screen computer terminals.

This is the first major renovation to the dental school since it moved to Preston Street in 1970.
