The Cardinal Success Program @ Shawnee will offer counseling services to students and their families. It is staffed by faculty and graduate students from the College of Education and Human Development’s Educational and Counseling Psychology, Counseling, and College Student Personnel Department.

“Social and emotional health are an important part of college readiness and this center supports our ongoing mission to help high school students transition into college,” UofL Provost Shirley Willihnganz said.

The Academy officially opened with a ceremony. Watch video here.

“Locating the center within the school itself will allow UofL and JCPS to capitalize on its powerful partnership,” said JCPS Superintendent Donna Hargens. We will work as a team, collaborating with teachers, parents, counselors and community members, to help our students succeed.”

CEHD Dean Ann Larson said the center will bring counseling services to an underserved area of the community.

“This is a great way for the university to share its expertise with the community,” Larson said. “The services will be provided by graduate-level counseling psychology and clinical mental health students working under the supervision of a licensed psychologist.”

The Cardinal Success Program @ Shawnee is part of the Signature Partnership, a university initiative to improve the education, health and social status of individuals and families who live in Louisville’s urban core.
