We are excited to have this group of highly trained physicians join our efforts to provide the highest possible neurosurgical care to the people of Louisville and beyond, said department chair Jonathan Hodes, MD. Additionally, these surgeons will provide excellent training opportunities in the innovative surgical techniques to our physicians in training.
Joining the UofL staff are Maxwell Boakye, MD, FACS; Francisco Ferraz, MD; Michael C. Park, MD, PhD; and Christian Ramsey III MD.
Boakye most recently was an assistant professor of neurological surgery and director of the Neural Plasticity Laboratory and the Outcomes Research Laboratory at Stanford University Medical Center in Palo Alto, Calif. He earned his medical degree from Cornell University Medical College. He performed his residency training at SUNY Upstate in Syracuse and had a fellowship at Emory University.
Ferraz has worked the past five months at UofL Hospital in a temporary post. Ferraz earned his medical degree from Faculadade de Medicine de Universidade Federal de Pernambuco in Brazil. He performed his residency training at Georgetown University and Affiliated Hospitals. He has served as a clinical faculty member at George Washington University and at Georgetown University.
Prior to joining UofL, Park spent a year as the William P. Van Wagenen Fellow at the Assistance Publique L’Hospital d’Adulte de la Timone in Marseille, France. After completing the University of Kansas MD/PhD program in 2002, Park trained in neurosurgery at the Rhode Island Hospital, Brown University, in Providence. He earned the Melvyn M. Gelch, MD Award for Advanced Training of Neurosurgical Residents while in training. He earned bachelor’s degrees in electrical engineering and in economics from Cornell University, and a degree in biology from the University of Kansas.
Ramsey spent the past three years at the University of Kentucky as an assistant professor in neurosurgery and radiology. He performed his surgical and neurosurgical training at the University of Kentucky, Cure Children’s Hospital of Uganda, Africa, and Helsinki University Central Hospital, Finland.
