That’s what President James Ramsey told recognized staff, their supervisors and guests at the annual Staff Recognition Luncheon Oct. 28 at the Brown & Williamson Club at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium.
Each year, administration – from the president and provost, to deans and vice presidents – recognize staff who have served the university for 10 years or more. The honor comes first at 10 years and then on every succeeding five-year anniversary, and it includes the luncheon and a gift each employee gets to choose.
Festivities began with a red-carpet walk for employees who have been at UofL for 40 years. Churchill Downs’ bugler Steve Buttleman played the “Call to the Post.” The UofL spirit team led a cheer. And Sam Connally, vice president for human resources, gave a welcoming talk that included university-wide accomplishments that all staff contributed to – punctuated by the audience-participation-cheer, “I’m card proud to work at UofL, ’cause I help make it happen.”
But even though the group recitation was not always synchronized, the message Connally and Ramsey conveyed was that all of UofL’s success – whether it’s in academics, sports, community recognition, research, fundraising, the physical appearance of campus or other areas – is due in large part to staff efforts.
“Give yourself a round of applause,” Ramsey said.
This year saw 399 staff members honored. They have a combined service of 7,490 years. Here they are:
