The event from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Brown and Williamson Club at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium is expected to attract more than 60 employers.
Organizers hope to increase the number of new employers for UofL engineering students seeking cooperative education assignments and fulltime professional work. The engineering school is noted for its advanced technical education that includes three alternating semesters of on-the-job training through a mandatory cooperative internship for undergraduates. Speed School’s career development office helps students plan their career paths through its transitions program, which offers programming, workshops and assistance with resume-writing, finances, networking and interviewing.
This year the fair has been opened up to support UofL engineering alumni who have been working in their fields as well as the current students seeking employment.
“We’re seeing a greater need from the industry side for engineers with experience,” said Mary Andrade, Speed School coordinator of recruitment and job referral.
The fair will feature professional opportunities in the fields of bioengineering, chemical engineering, civil engineering, computer engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, environmental engineering, industrial engineering and mechanical engineering.
On-campus interviewing is an option for employers after the event, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 5 and the next day, Oct. 6.
