Blake Haselton has agreed to stay at the University of Louisville as the head of the college while UofL launches another search for a new dean.
A search committee recommended three finalists for the job, each of whom visited the campus, and met with faculty and staff.
All three were outstanding candidates, said Provost Shirley Willihnganz, but none were the right fit.
It was difficult to get enthusiastic support for any one candidate from the majority of employees because of the complexity and diversity of interests in the College of Education, she explained.
Willihnganz has suspended the current search for a permanent dean and will begin a new search this fall with the hope that a new dean will be in place by the fall of 2011.
Colleges and universities often need more than one search to find a new dean or other top academic administrator, Willihnaganz said.
Haselton, a former Oldham County (Ky.) school superintendent, was named the interim dean in June 2008, one month after former dean Robert Felner resigned during a criminal investigation that sprung from irregularities a university employee discovered.
