    1.) Collect meaningful data to inform what you teach

    Join Drs. Marie Kendall Brown and Sara Fulmer in this two-part session as they teach you the fundamentals of the research-based practice called “Mid-Semester Feedback” (MSF). MSFs are short feedback sessions you conduct with your students to gather formative feedback about student learning, attitudes and experiences for the purpose of informing mid-stream course adjustments. Lunch is served so pre-registration is required.

    3.) University Writing Center services available

    We are available for individual consultations for any students, faculty and staff. We provide feedback on any type of writing at any point in the writing process. We also visit classes or events at your request. You can request a quick presentation about our services or a workshop. Examples of workshop topics are: getting started; citing sources; integrating sources; constructing a thesis statement; and writing the literature review. To request class visit, please complete our online form.

    Register now to attend a two-hour retirement workshop sponsored by the School of Accountancy and presented by faculty member and certified financial planner Sheila Johnston, CPA. Topics include discussion of UofL options, amounts needed for retirement, basic retirement issues and much more.

    6.) Make a suggestion for the next Book-in-Common

    The Book-in-Common Selection Committee will soon begin the process of selecting the text for the 2016-17 program. Do you have a suggestion for next year’s Book-in-Common? Please share it with us!     7.) Lung cancer risk reduction study

    Eligible participants are invited to test their homes for radon and secondhand smoke for free. If you own a single-family home, are 21 years of age or older, and you or a member of your household smokes cigarettes, cigars or pipes, you may be eligible to participate in a research study on lung cancer risk reduction. Please follow the link to see if you are eligible. Research participants will be compensated for taking part in the research study.

    8.) Evidence-based transgender medicine

    Sept. 11, noon to 1 p.m., Kornhauser Auditorium

    Dr. Henry Ng, president of the Gay and Lesbian Medical Association and founder and director of the Pride Clinic in Clevelend, Ohio, will present the most up-to-date, evidence-based recommendations for the care of transgender patients, such as prescription and maintenance of cross-sex hormones, surgical options, informed consent guidelines and working with mental health professionals seeing your patient.
