    You’re invited to experience the Teaching Innovation Learning Lab (TILL) in person during the Grand Opening Celebration. Formal remarks from Acting President Pinto and Acting Provost Billingsley begin at 3:30 p.m. Attendees will be able to tour the new facility, participate in active learning classroom demonstrations, and will have the chance to win door prizes.     2.) New digital institutional repository, ThinkIR, launched

    ThinkIR is the University of Louisville’s digital repository, designed to collect and provide worldwide, open access to the scholarship of the university community. As ThinkIR’s sponsor and host, University Libraries provides an open access coordinator dedicated to facilitating the deposit of scholarship, making the process simple for faculty. Currently, ThinkIR showcases a growing wealth of faculty publications and student dissertations and theses.

    The Louisville-based tech start-up, Gyroskope, is developing a solution and they are looking for your feedback and opinions to ensure their final product delivers a delightful experience for seniors. We invite individuals 65 and older to an open discussion about how seniors think and feel about technology, and to provide feedback on the Gyroskope Family Network, a new platform that is being designed specifically to help non-digital natives enjoy the benefits of the digital experience.

    6.) Investigate teaching opportunities with Book-In-Common, ‘Hidden America’

    September 19, 12-1 p.m. (lunch will be available starting at 11:30 a.m.), Teaching Innovation Learning Lab, Ekstrom #302A

    In this session, participants will be introduced to the 2016-17 Book-in-Common, “Hidden America: From Coal Miners to Cowboys,” an extraordinary exploration of the unseen people who make this country work. This session will introduce participants to the developmental issues of first-year students as well as explore ways to incorporate Hidden America into courses and other contexts. The first 15 registrants will receive a free copy of the book at the session.

    8.) The Bioengineering Dept. Seminar Series presents an introduction to melanoma nanomedicine and exosomes

    Sept. 15, noon to 1:30 p.m., Vogt Building, Room 311

    Dr. Joshua L. Hood, assistant professor of Pharmacology and Toxicology and an associate scientist at the James Graham Brown Cancer Center at UofL, will present “An introduction to melanoma nanomedicine and exosomes.” Nanomedicine is the therapeutic application of nanotechnology for the purposes of preventing or treating disease in the human body. Effective delivery of nanoparticles containing therapeutic cargo requires specific biophysical design considerations.  In recent years, the field of melanoma nanomedicine has emerged as a means to repurpose traditional chemotherapy and provide additional treatment options.

    The Brown Cancer Center Colloquia will present, “The role of BRAF(V600E) in tumor initiation, cancer progression and response to pathway-targeted therapy.” Our guest speaker is Martin McMahon, PhD, Cumming-Presidential Professor of Cancer Biology, senior director for Preclinical Translation from the Huntsman Cancer Institute, University of Utah School of Medicine.

    Koru Mindfulness classes and retreats can contribute to focus, stress resilience, better sleep and reduced anxiety. Please encourage students to register for Koru Mindfulness classes or a retreat. Faculty and staff may request a waiver to register for the classes and retreats provided by Health Promotion Wellbeing Central for students or join the Koru Mindfulness classes provided by Get Healthy Now.

    Barre Basics uses a combination of postures inspired by ballet and other disciplines like Yoga and Pilates. You will focus on isometric strength training combined with high reps of small range-of-motion movements. Suitable for all fitness levels. First class is always free.

    Medicine Grand Rounds features Raj K. Vuppalanchi, MBBS, associate pofessor of Medicine in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the Indiana University School of Medicine. Dr. Vuppalanchi will present “Drug and Dietary Supplement Induced Liver Injury – DILI Experience” focusing on recognizing drug and herbal-dietary supplement-induced liver injury, making a diagnosis of DILI, and the use of Livertox.nih.gov in clinical practice.
