4.) No Experience Necessary: Learn to Create iPad and iPhone Videos to Enhance Your Teaching
Oct. 8, noon to 1 p.m., (note: lunch will be available at 11:30 a.m. Presenters will also stay an extra 30 minutes until 1:30 p.m. for additional hands-on practice and support), Delphi Center, Ekstrom Library
It’s easy to create videos for or with your students using Adobe Premiere Clip on your iPhone or iPad. This hands-on interactive session will cover all three aspects of video production—shooting, editing, and sharing—using an iOS device. We will explore ways that creating videos can enhance your teaching and help students achieve your learning goals.
Additional Information: We encourage you to bring your own device. If you don’t have an iPad or iPhone, we’ll have a few extra iPads on hand. 7.) Free encrypted flash drives from IT for full compliance on your machines
Information Technology appreciates how UofL continues to move forward on the university’s encryption mandate for protecting all machines used for storing, transferring or transmitting confidential and sensitive information. Full-disk encryption on all eligible devices must occur by Oct. 31. As an incentive for data security, IT is giving away free encrypted flash drives to the first 2,000 employees demonstrating full compliance. Please contact your Tier1 personnel about eligibility.

10.) Faculty/staff invited to nominate students for Mortar Board Honorary

Faculty and staff are invited to nominate undergraduate students to apply for Mortar Board National Senior Honorary. Requirements are excellence in scholarship, leadership and service. The chapter is active in service to campus and the community with book drives, soup kitchen help and public lectures. Requirements include a GPA of 3.30 and 60 current credit hours. Applications are due by 4pm on Fri Sep 30. Faculty/staff may also e-mail nominee names to advisor Gerry Williger.

11.) Native American Film Festival continues tonight
Sept. 22, 5 to 8:30 p.m., Floyd Theater, Student Activity Center
Free
The two-day Native American Film Festival will continue Tuesday night. Tuesday’s movie, “Smoke Signals,” is a classic in Indian Country and is the first film written, directed and acted by Native Americans. The event is sponsored by the Institute for Intercultural Communication, the Department of Communication, the Liberal Studies Project, and the Native American Student Organization. Discussions will follow the screening, and refreshments are provided.

12.) Lung Cancer Risk Reduction Study
Eligible participants are invited to test their homes for radon and secondhand smoke for free. If you own a single family home, are 21 years of age or older, and you or a member of your household smokes cigarettes, cigars or pipes, you may be eligible to participate in a research study on lung cancer risk reduction. “Sports Biz Miss” Kristi Dosh, who has provided material for ESPN, Forbes, Bleacher Report and other outlets, will give a public lecture about the business of college sports. 15.) Diseases and Epidemics in Ancient Mesopotamia: Medical Conceptualization and Responses

Walter Farber is a Professor of Assyriology at the University of Chicago whose works include the publication of many cuneiform texts of different genres, as well as lexical, grammatical and bibliographical studies. His books have been devoted to the study of the Akkadian magico-medical corpus and its relationship to literary genres (poetry, prayers, incantations), oral traditions, archaeological artifacts, and the history of science.
