    Free for students, $40 for faculty & staff

    Group fitness classes have begun at the HSC Fitness Center. Join us for Zumba, Step, Power Pilates and Power Yoga. Check out our website for a complete schedule. $40 registration fee covers all classes through December 4.

    7.) Today: Professional Etiquette in the Modern Workplace

    This session will take a look at the basic protocols you need to have in your professional tool box. The first section will discuss “What is professionalism?” and how to enhance your image beyond educational qualifications. Then, we will talk about the “Best Business Etiquette Guidelines,” which will enable you to bring your “A game” manners to your work place every day. Above all, this session will highlight keeping your dignity and respecting the dignity of others. Register online.

    8.) Thursday: Parking plans at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium

    Sept. 17

    All purple permit holders will be parking at the Kentucky Fair and Expo Center parking lot N on Thursday, Sept. 17. The Cardinal Shuttle will provide service to campus from this lot. Purple permit holders may park in green, blue or yellow spaces after 2 p.m. Thursday. For more information and a map please look at the Announcements section of the Parking webpage.

    9.) Space still available for self-defense class for women to be held in October

    Oct. 3, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Student Recreation Center, classroom

    Free

    Space is still available for the Rape Aggression Defense (R.A.D.) Systems instruction. This is a self-defense program designed and created specifically for women. It consists of easy to learn, effectively proven physical defense techniques which are taught by certified instructors during the hands-on nine (9) hour program. Classes are open to faculty, staff and students. The class will meet on three consecutive Saturdays with each session lasting 3 hours.

    10.) The Civil War Illustrations of Captain Adolph G. Metzner

    Sept. 15, noon to 1 p.m., Carnegie Center for Art and History, 201 East Spring Street, New Albany, Indiana

    Free for UofL faculty, staff and students, but registration is required

    Louisville resident Metzner was a member of a German-American regiment during the Civil War. He executed over 120 sketches, drawings and watercolors during his three years of service. Speaker Michael A. Peake is the author of Indiana’s German Sons, Baptism of Fire: Rowlett’s Station 1861.

    12.) Bioinformatics Seminar: Investigation of M tuberculosis and Human Genetic Variation in the Rising Era of Individual Genome Sequence

    Dr. Ben Busby from the National Center for Biotechnology Information will describe how NCBI has enhanced several of its genomics resources in the last several months and how some of its public databases can be queried for computational biology and clinical questions, including the indexing of exons from over 1 million samples from over 800,000 individuals housed in the dbGaP database at every position in the human genome.
